Design Your Own Wedding Dress

Like many girls, Looking for something that will make your special day even more memorable? planning your wedding since you were a little girl. Playing pretend with your dress up clothes imagining how your special day would play out. And maybe, in that vivid imagination, you could see yourself in the perfect dress. You can bring that childhood memory to life, by designing your own wedding dress.
It could work out that designing your own dress and working with a seamstress will work out to be less expensive than a designer gown at a bridal boutique. If you are lucky, you or someone you know is talented in cutting patterns and working a sewing machine. What a special way to include a beloved friend or family in your wedding.
If you don’t have a memory of what you want your dream dress to be, flip through the pages some wedding magazines taking note of the different things that you like. Necklines, hems, embroidery, rhinestones. Designing your own dress allows you to take a piece of every dress you like, rather than having to settle for one dress with a few details you like. Designing your dress gives an immediate originality to your big event.  Plus you get a chance to show a little bit of yourself in the wedding rather than letting the classic style drown your own.
Creating your own dress can also help you keep it in the family. Women tend to hold on to their wedding dresses for prosperity. Talk with your mother and grandmother and see if there are pieces that you can take from their dress to include in your own. Perhaps your grandmother’s dress has some beautiful vintage lace and your mother’s has covered buttons that can be used on your original design. With these pieces you will have something old and something new all in one.
Regardless of whether you take sewing classes or not, it wouldn’t hurt to get a professional opinion at some point in the process. Whether you consult with someone on the design after you’ve sketched it or during the sewing to be sure you’re going about it the right way. You wouldn’t want a wardrobe malfunction on the day of your wedding; run by a local dress shop and ask if the person who does alterations could give it a one-over.
If you don’t want to sew it yourself, whether for time or personal safety, find a dress maker locally. You can talk it over with them and show the ideas you have for an ideal dress; they can add their professional input and make something you’ll be happy with. This way the dress will still be original and let your personal style shine through; not all designers are seamstresses.
Another way to make a wedding dress original is to take one that is already existing and have it altered, personally or by someone else. Maybe you find a dress where you like the sleeves but the waist and length is all wrong. It’s not a crime to tweak a wedding dress. Shop around for prices on alterations.
An alternative is to mess around with the color palette. Do you really want a traditional white gown? It wouldn’t be tacky or out of the ordinary to go with a creme or off-white color as long as it matches the rest of the decor. Also, experiment with the bridesmaids dresses both in color and style. You may even want these to be hand-made.
